5 steps to start your Allurion Program

What is the Allurion balloon?

The Allurion Balloon is an FDA approved gastric balloon (also known as an intragastric balloon or IGB) made from polyurethane, a material that is much thinner and more flexible than the silicone material in other gastric balloons. The Allurion Balloon is enclosed in a Smart Capsule that is composed of a vegetarian, non-animal derived, degradable material that encloses the balloon. The balloon occupies space within the stomach, promoting a feeling of fullness and reducing food intake. After approximately 16 weeks, the Allurion Balloon empties through a patented Release Valve and is naturally eliminated.

How is the Smart Capsule swallowed?

The Smart Capsule is swallowed by the patient to introduce the Allurion Balloon into the stomach. In previously published studies, 99.9% of patients were able to swallow the Capsule.

The filled Allurion Balloon is designed to remain in the stomach for approximately 16 weeks. During the AUDACITY Study, the Balloon remained in the stomach for a little over 15 weeks.

During this time, the Allurion Balloon operates in the same ways as other IGBs to promote satiety and reduce food consumption.

Will I put the weight back on?

We understand that weight regain after balloon passage is a common fear and source of anxiety. This is why the Allurion Balloon is accompanied by nutritional coaching and medical support to help you change your lifestyle and develop a healthier routine. Once the Allurion Balloon is out of your body, the support from your follow-up team continues until the end of the Allurion Programme to help you maintain the same eating habits.
